Sorry this has to come at the end of Cambodia, but I can’t figure out how to add a new page from my iPad; so we will all suffer through – especially me.
We are off to a wedding in West Virginia. Our first stop is Washington DC. We arrive Wednesday night and walk the two blocks from our hotel to see the White House. Unfortunately, you can’t get very close.
This is the back of the White House
The next morning we leisurely awaken and after breakfast start our Whirlwind day.
First stop the Washington monument (we will try to get tickets on our return pass thru DC on Monday)
Then the World War II monument.
On to the Lincoln Memorial
Next stop – the Vietnam Memorial Wall
A walk by the Korean War Memorial
Then a hike along the Potomac to view the Jefferson Memorial.
We headed back to the National Mall and stopped for a tour of of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. We saw money being printed- sheets of $20.00 bills – but absolutely no cameras allowed.
And finally we visited the Smithsonian American History Museum. I could have spent hours in there!
Who knew my wood paneled minivan would be part of the history of American transportation.
Julia Child’s kitchen…which is being remodeled…so we just got a glimpse.
p.s. this was taken with the wide angle lens on my new iPhone 11Pro.
And Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers
I had to see the First Ladies section and all the inaugural gowns.
And I learned a harder way to do laundry. Who knew there were 7 steps to wash your clothes?
And finally Lincoln’s top hat.
We drag ourselves back to our hotel and stop for a drink at the rooftop bar.
This is our view of the White House from there.
As we are sitting there looking out the window, we see 3 military type helicopters flying towards us in formation. The middle helicopter swooped in to the front of the White House while the other two fell away – unfortunately I was not really camera ready.
Look at the top left corner of the window.
And then in the center below.
And on that exciting note, we ended our day. We have to be up at 5:30 a.m to catch our flight to Lewisburg WV.
