And we are back in DC

We leave Lewisburg Sunday morning on our 30 minute flight to DC.

One of the things we had at the top of our target list was the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to see an exhibit in the early flyers section. There was a section on Jim’s great uncle – Harvey Crawford who built a plane from a picture in 1908 (and flew it) without ever seeing one in person. He then built a pusher plane in 1912 and entered an amateur event where he won first prize for a flight that went two hours and twenty minutes.

Unfortunately I had to research this myself because the exhibit was closed for remodeling. Yes, that blue part is where it should have been.

So instead we went to the planetarium to see In Search of Dark Matter – the best part was that it was in 8K AND we got to sit for 30 minutes.

Wright Brothers below.

Next we head to the National Archives – and just like Amanda’s wedding ceremony, no photos allowed. But we saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We also saw an exhibit on each of the amendments.

The Capital

And finally the rows of food trucks, but no eating for us; it’s time to rest.

After a quick re-charge it is time to eat and Jordan finds us a spectacular Mexican restaurant. When I ask the waiter for something that isn’t spicy – he retorts, “Well, this is a Mexican restaurant”. I eventually found something.

Jordan really wanted to order the Chapulines taco, but knew the crunching might bother us. Yeah it would have.

Yummy guacamole

This air salt margarita completed my meal

And tomorrow we have a list of 6 or 7 places to hit before our evening flight home. We’ll see how many we get to.
