8 days in Italy then on to Switzerland – hope you enjoy our trip. We are so looking forward to it!
Day 1+
After a very easy 12 hour direct flight from San Francisco, we arrive in Rome.
First stop is to drop our luggage at our charming little hotel on a VERY cobbled street.
And the day begins, but by now it is late afternoon and we have a lot to try to cover. Turns out, it all revolved around food. We started at a rooftop bar in Piazza Navona for a Hugo Spritz.
And now we have at least 90 minutes until our dinner reservation. But it’s just a 20 minute walk down a bit and across the river. 89 minutes later and LOTS of walking we arrive. So worth the walk!
I ask for butter, and I wish I had taken a picture before I dug into it. I didn’t get the expected pat of butter.
I got a bowl of custom cut and curled butter slices.
Jay ordered lamb. The rest of us ordered Cacio Pepe – but I ordered mine without the Pepe.
After dinner we took a cab to the Hotel Hassler at the top of the Spanish steps for a nightcap. After our drink, I talk everyone into walking back to the hotel and promise we can have a gelato on the way back.
And now it is after 10p.m. and our 2 mile walk back had seemed like 10 miles. So we call it a night.
Update – it is 4 am and Jim shows me his pictures….- would have been better to know this before I did my update. I will get better at this as the trip wears on.
Tomorrow, we may try to get one stop in before our nearly 4 hour train ride to Portofino.
