And we are on our way home

We land in Rome last night after our fifth flight delay. I had booked a “reasonably priced” hotel near the airport as our scheduled departure time the next day was three, but we wanted to get to the airport by 1. Not enough time to stay in downtown Rome. Again, I book a hotel with a pool so we could sit by the pool until we needed to leave for the airport. The Best Western Rome was anything but best. The bed was like sleeping on plywood- but we did get some sleep. And it had rained in the morning, so no pool time.

Yes, we are close to the airport, in the flight path.

This morning we wake up, pack up all of our things and head down to see if breakfast is included in our room. It was! Except, the restaurant closed 15 minutes before. So we set off on a walking adventure to find breakfast. Remember we have seen beautiful parts of the country.

This was not so pretty.

But we found a great place for a cappuccino and pastries

The donut was initially a full donut, but one of us couldn’t wait.

Time to head to the airport..we are 3 hours early, but it is an international flight…..and of course the flight is delayed..perfect record 6 out of 6 flights delayed.but we don’t find out it is delayed until we get to the gate and boarding time comes and goes with no one boarding. Finally, 2+ hours later, they rush us all on board. Barely settled in and they close the doors for take-off.

Once in the air we can order beverages. I order my birthday champagne! It was very good.

At least we are headed home.

Nick picked us up at SFO - handled our heavy luggage and delivered us to our doorstep!

Home sweet home! Great trip but also so good to be home.

Thanks for the great travel updates! You didn't look like you had jetlag in the pool this morning!
