Turns out I need to ask everyone for their pictures before I publish mine. Jim caught a lot more images – so I am adding his from Day 1.
And then his snaps of near our hotel.
And now we can move on to Day 2
We are up early – actually 3 a.m. We take our time getting ready and re-packing, but are ready to start our exploring at 6:30. Unfortunately, Rome is not prepared for early morning visitors. Jim had wanted to tour the Roman Forum where a new portion of the ruins was recently unveiled, so we head in that direction.
And my favorite part – at 7 am – Carrie is trying to will the shop to open.
She’ll have to wait 3 more hours.
So we head to the Roman Forum and find a place for breakfast.
After cappuccino- they bring us lemon cello!
Carrie and I want to rent him
But this is what we would have gotten
Turns out we couldn’t get tickets to the forum before 2 p.m. – and we have train tickets to leave at noon…..so we start walking back. You can’t go wrong walking thru Rome.
Jim likes his narrow shadow
Me and the ruins!
Jay waits for Carrie as she tours another church
And we are on our way to Portofino. It is a long train ride…4 1/2 hours!! And we need to tackle our luggage. Jim and I pack in carry on size and Carrie has a larger suitcase….but it turns out although my suitcase weighs more than hers, her suitcase is larger; it can’t fit anywhere! We move it all around the train for the next 4 1/2 hours.
And we arrive. The good news is that we are here for 3 days, not just mere hours.
The hotel Excelsior Palace on the Portofino coast does not disappoint.

Mr. Kerry Crawford receives a welcome gift.
And we head to the pool.
Jim and I are done for the day…room service for us. Carrie and Jay ate headed back to Rapallo for a pizza dinner.
And that finishes off the day
