Day in Montreux

Our one local sight to see is the castle. I wasn’t real interested in going by crowded ferry, so at breakfast we asked the busboy how else we could get there (at this point we had heard it was on an island on the lake). He said we could walk and it would take about 20 minutes. So it’s not an island. We asked at the front desk if we could walk, and she said yes it is a flat walk but it would take about 45 minutes. So we figured somewhere between the 20 minute youth number and the padded 45 minute expectation. We set off. It’s a beautiful lakeside walk and typical to everywhere else in Switzerland it is lined with sculptures.

First sculpture is Freddy Mercury. He evidently spent his last years here and recorded several albums with Queen here in Montreux.

About midway through the walk

The castle is behind us and way to the right

And 90 minutes later, we arrive. Now we did stop to take some pictures – but even if you take off 15 minutes it was a pretty long walk. Now we tour the castle.

And of course a Swiss clock

Sparse furnishings but HUGE fireplaces

And by now it is getting really warm – at least for me. I use one of my stretchy pearl bracelets to hold my dripping hair back.

More sculptures

And walking at a better pace – we make it back in 70 minutes.

Jim and I love destination weddings – and this one was right out our window (well and down 7 floors).

Is someone watching this little boy?

And tonight we are having dinner at the Lebanese restaurant. – Lemantine. Opened by the only Michelin starred chef focusing on French/Middle Eastern cuisine – Alan Geaam.

Fattoush

Lobster and boulghour

Chicken with a carrot and orange blossom sauce

We were stuffed – but Jim could not pass up baklava.

Notice he could hardly wait for me to get the picture over with. He is ready to pounce!

A a quick walk along the property to see the sculptures of the jazz greats that played here.

Vladimir Nabokov*

BB King

Aretha Franklin

Ray Charles

Founder of the Jazz festival – Claude Nobs

Quincy Jones

Carlos Santana

Ella Fitzgerald

* Vladimir Nabokov was a Russian writer who actually lived on the 6th floor of the hotel for 16 years. (That must of been a heck of a bill)

I almost left out the picture of the day!

And a few more

Tomorrow we are on to our last stop – Zurich…..and then home on Monday
