The plane was freezing cold and the flight attendant sightings were rare – but we held out hope for the next flight. We indulged in some great cuisine to gear ourselves up for Italy.
We had a short 90 minute layover and we were off to Rome. Not so fast….2 1/2 hours into the flight the captain comes on the PA and announces that the plane has technical issues and while it doesn’t present a safety issue, we need to turn around and return to Toronto. Another 2 1/2 hours later as we approach Toronto, he announces that while we may see many emergency vehicles on the tarmac, we are not to be concerned – that this is standard in “these situations” ; what the heck!
Sonia it is 1 am and we are back in Toronto. Lots of discussions – and NO information…but we are told another plane is coming in and we should be good to go by 3 am. The next plane is a different configuration and we were randomly assigned new seats.
By the time we are re-boarded (me in a non reclining window seat with my back to the toilet where I could hear the flushing) – it was 4 am and we were off again. 8 hours later we land. Great to be on firm soil….but we still have no idea what happened!
Our hotel is really cute. But we gotta get moving and start our epicurean adventure.
This is the restaurant lobby
Yummy!
Now I’m fed and gotta get some sleep- no gelato tonight.
And we should be ready to hit the streets running in the morning. We landed too late for our Borghese Gallery reservations, so we will walk up there in the morning to see if anything can be done. And we have already finished our first 2 days of vacation.
