Day 4
We are on the move again.
We are Leaving Ischia, which was surprisingly enjoyable; much more bustling than we expected. We also found out the island basically closes for the winter, closing sometime in October and not re-opening till April (probably not the whole island, but certainly the tourist areas and hotels). Ischia is more than 4 times larger than Capri, but certainly not as well known.
Speaking of Capri, that is our first stop on the hydrofoil as we head to Amalfi. We don’t get off but head next for Sorrento. We get off in Sorrento and find boat tickets for our ultimate destination – Amalfi. A quick refreshment in Sorrento and it is time to board. We arrive in the Amalfi port and can actually see our hotel – unfortunately it is up a hill and no sidewalk. We drag our luggage and head up, dodging cars and Vespas that fly by.
We knew this was a convent – but it is billed as a luxury hotel. The rooms are very basic – but the views are spectacular.
We settle in and head for the pool – which is across that wild road and then down 5 flights – where you also have access to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
And now time for dinner. We head back down the road to the village to look for someplace to eat. The village was packed! We end up at a pizza place where we are told that the pizzas are individual size.
Not sure what individual could eat even 1/2 of these.
And now we are beyond exhausted and head for bed. But hold on, just as we are settling in, the fireworks begin.
