Things to know about where we are. The Mekong is about 2700 miles long and covers 7 countries. Vietnam is the 4th largest producer of rice. They export 7 million tons of rice a year. They are also a large supplier of fish – both catfish and tilapia. They export 1.5 million tons of fish every year. Each fish hut produces 150,000 fish or 12 tons of fish a year. When they export the fish they are alive and 4 to 5 fish are put in a large plastic bag then filled with water and oxygen.
This picture from yesterday shows the bags of fish being moved for transport – just think there are only a few fish in the each of these bags.
But now on to today, morning tai chi, breakfast and off on our tour. We start with a tour of a fish farm and I wish I could share the horrific smell with you.
These are the catfish.
Here are the tilapia
Well you have to use your imagination on which fish is which.
Now to the market.
These are lemons and kumquats- we think something was lost in translation –
and there are limes in here too.
And for all of you that Ian promised to get a Rolex – trust me he is shopping for you…although I doubt he will get through customs.
And now for a ride around town on the xelois- fun way to go.
Now I can’t always rely on getting my picture taken so I took my own.
And now it’s 10 am and we are headed back to the boat. We now sail for the next 9 hours across the border to Phnom Penh.
