Trying to cover a lot of ground

So it’s our last day in Malta - and there are still a few things to do and see. Yesterday was pouring rain, and today is blaring sun. This time Jim ordered his porridge separately so he wouldn’t have 2 bowls at once. Great breakfast and time to move on

I had wanted to go to the archeological museum to see the sleeping lady sculpture they found in the hypogeum. At least I thought it was a sculpture- but after visiting the museum which is where we found the artifact displayed….it really is a clay figurine; maybe 4 inches long. So now I have to look at it in a different light. The intricacies carved in her skirt were quite refined for 4000 years ago - replete with the sagging couch beneath her rather large hips.

We did a bit more touring in the museum.

So enough with the antiquities- we need to meet Elena and Mike for a ferry to the 3 cities.

And look, I pass pastizzi’s! There were chicken, chickpea and ricotta options, wish I was hungry. Every morning I asked at the hotel if they were serving pastizzi’s that day, but they always told me no. Actually I wasn’t told anything, they always said they would go check and 20 minutes later I would see the waiter go by and ask him again…and then I was told no.

On to meet Mike and Elena for the ferry.

And we head across the water.

Mike and Elena went to the Naval History Museum. We went up in the fort. - Fort St Angelo, since Mike and Elena had visited the fort on their trip to Malta in February. By this time it is early afternoon and the sun is beating down on us.

A quick stop for lunch

And we start to cool down a bit. So we hop on the ferry back to Valetta.

We head to the hotel to pick up our luggage and bid adieu to Mike and Elena. They are on their way to start their new life in Spain! But not before Elena arranges a bolt ride for us to the airport.

We are more than 2 1/2 hours early and of course - our plane is late. But it is only 30 minutes late this time - best record yet!

We will spend tonight at a Best Western right by the airport so we are ready to fly home tomorrow.
