We hit all the highlights in Lucerne

Still raining in the morning, but not pouring so we set out to see our list of sights.

Early morning pictures from our room

We are headed to our first stop – Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal).

Carved into sandstone, it commemorates the Swiss Guards killed during the French Revolution

Now we walk all along the riverfront and admire the sculptures

But this was my favorite – only when you walked closer did you really see the details.

Up close – you could see right through it!

Back along the waterfront

In the afternoon we head out for our last must see…the Musegg Wall and fortress as well as the Museggmauer clock tower, the oldest working clock in Lucerne. The Swiss are fanatic about their clocks and watches. They are precise! The famous Swiss Montaigne railway clocks (which you can purchase for about $500) – have a second hand that pauses for 2 seconds at the beginning of every minute. This ensures all trains run exactly on schedule. And we can attest to that.

Lots of climbing up and down

You can watch the clock movement above or hear the church bells below

We have earned a good dinner and the hotel dinner did not disappoint. Jim took this picture from the dinner table, we hadn’t even noticed the reflections until we looked at the image.

Top: Cold asparagus soup; salmon, cucumber and horseradish; tomato, mozzarella and basil ravioli

Bottom: Filet with teriyaki sauce and wasabi potatoes; Warmes Schokoladenkuchlein

Other fun sights we saw today...too good not to share
